Scope of this privacy policy

This notice applies to the “Janeway” service with the domain “journals.ub.uni-mainz.de.” It expands on the general information provided in the central privacy policy of the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and the University Library's privacy policy, and explains what data is collected during your visit to journals.ub.uni-mainz.de and exactly how it is used.

Where cross-references (links) point to content from other providers, their use of data may be governed by principles other than those described here.

Cookies

We utilise cookies for the following purposes:

  • Maintenance of login sessions
  • Prevention of cross site request forgery
  • Tracking views and downloads of our articles using the COUNTER method (https://www.projectcounter.org/)
  • Contacting the team

Input forms

All data entered on input forms and the returned contents are transmitted via an encrypted connection (https/SSL). Via the contact form, we collect the following personal data: email address.

User data

The Mainz University Library operates the SPORK publication platform. This platform is provided via the Janeway software platform, which is hosted by Birkbeck, University of London, our service provider. When using SPORK the following personal data is processed.

Birkbeck, University of London (our service provider) and Janeway (our platform) only collects the data that is required in order to provide services to you, that is:

  • Submitting an article for publication
  • Contacting you with information about our membership programme
  • Contacting us via our contact form
  • Monitoring our infrastructure for bugs or security issues
  • Non intrusive cookies to track which articles are viewed and downloaded

To use SPORK (in particular, to submit an article and to register), we collect the following personal data:

  • country
  • email address
  • first name
  • last name

Optionally you can provide:

  • ORCID
  • Facebook, Github and Linkedin handles

This account information is used exclusively for internal purposes related to user management and for documenting submissions and publications.

Data sharing

We may share some of your data with external persons for the following purposes only:

  • Editing, peer reviewing, copy editing, typesetting or proofing your article
  • Registering your article with Datacite
  • Registering your article with Similarity Check (we only provide your manuscript file, no other data)

Janeway does not aggregate data and data is never sold.

Automation

Janeway (our software platform) does not profile your data in order to make an automated decisions.

Note on the right to deletion for authors

Under GDPR legislation you have the right to withdraw your consent to our use of this data, however, it should be noted that Right to Erasure may not apply to authors of a submitted article as we have a legitimate interest in keeping your data to identify you as the author of a published and indexed text (see GDPR 2016 s 17(3)(b)).
